This trek circles around Mount Manaslu, the eighth-highest peak in the world, providing trekkers with stunning views and a memorable adventure.

Starting in the town of Maccha Khola, the trek gradually ascends through lush forests, terraced fields, and picturesque villages. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River, crossing suspension bridges and winding through deep gorges. As you trek higher, the landscape changes dramatically, with the dense forests giving way to alpine meadows and barren hillsides.

One of the highlights of the Manaslu Circuit Trek is the Larkya La Pass, which stands at an impressive 5,135 meters (16,847 feet) above sea level. Crossing this pass is a challenging but rewarding experience, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, and Kang Guru. The descent from the pass takes you into the beautiful Marsyangdi Valley.

Throughout the trek, you will encounter traditional Tibetan-influenced villages, where the local culture and way of life have remained largely unchanged for centuries. Villages like Samagaon and Samdo offer a glimpse into the region's rich heritage, with their monasteries, mani walls, and prayer flags fluttering in the wind.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is also a great opportunity to witness diverse flora and fauna. The lower regions are covered with rhododendron forests that bloom in spring, while the higher altitudes are home to rare animals like the snow leopard and blue sheep.

Teahouses along the route offer basic accommodation and meals, providing a warm and welcoming place to rest after a day of trekking. The trek typically takes about 14-18 days to complete, depending on your pace and itinerary, making it a perfect choice for those looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure in Nepal.

Best Season for Manaslu Circuit Trek

Choosing the right season is very important for a successful and enjoyable Manaslu Circuit Trek. The best periods for this trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather conditions are stable, skies are clear, and mountain views are at their best. During these seasons, trekkers can experience comfortable temperatures, excellent visibility, and safer trail conditions.

Spring is one of the most beautiful times to trek in the Manaslu region. During March, April, and May, the lower sections of the trail become colorful with blooming rhododendron forests, Nepal’s national flower. The weather gradually becomes warmer, making walking conditions pleasant, while the higher mountains remain covered with snow, creating stunning scenery.

Autumn is considered the peak trekking season in Nepal because of its clear skies and stable weather. From September to November, the trails offer incredible views of Himalayan peaks, and the risk of heavy rainfall or snowfall is lower. This season is especially suitable for crossing the Larkya La Pass because the trail conditions are generally more favorable.

Winter and monsoon seasons are less recommended due to challenging conditions. Winter brings heavy snowfall and extreme cold at higher elevations, while the monsoon season can cause slippery trails, landslides, and limited mountain visibility.

Best Seasons for Manaslu Circuit Trek:

  • Spring (March–May): Warm weather, blooming flowers, clear mountain views
  • Autumn (September–November): Best visibility, stable weather, ideal trekking conditions
  • Winter (December–February): Possible but challenging due to cold and snow
  • Monsoon (June–August): Less recommended because of rain and trail difficulties

Manaslu Circuit Trek Difficulty and Transportation

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is considered a moderate to challenging trekking adventure because of its remote location, long walking days, and high-altitude sections. Trekkers should have good physical fitness and be prepared for several hours of walking each day. The most demanding part of the journey is crossing the Larkya La Pass at 5,106 meters, where altitude, cold temperatures, and steep trails require careful preparation.

Although the trek is challenging, it is achievable for trekkers with proper preparation and a positive mindset. Ram Himalayan Trek provides experienced guides who support trekkers with pacing, acclimatization, safety management, and route guidance throughout the journey. Proper rest days in Sama Gaun and Samdo help the body adjust to increasing altitude and reduce the risk of altitude-related problems.

Transportation for the Manaslu Circuit Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Maccha Khola. The road journey takes approximately 8–10 hours and provides beautiful views of Nepal’s countryside, rivers, hills, and traditional villages. After completing the trek, transportation is arranged from Dharapani back to Kathmandu through mountain highways.

Difficulty and Transportation Information:

  • Trekking Grade: Moderate to challenging
  • Highest Point: Larkya La Pass (5,106m)
  • Average Walking Duration: 5–8 hours per day
  • Requires good physical fitness and preparation
  • Kathmandu to Maccha Khola: Approximately 170 km by local/private vehicle
  • Dharapani to Kathmandu return drive: Approximately 10–12 hours

Food and Accommodation for Manaslu Circuit Trek

During the Manaslu Circuit Trek, trekkers stay in traditional mountain teahouses that provide comfortable accommodation and warm hospitality. The teahouses are simple but provide essential facilities, including beds, blankets, dining areas, and shared bathrooms. In remote areas such as Dharmasala, facilities become more basic due to the high altitude and isolated location.

Ram Himalayan Trek carefully selects reliable teahouses along the route to ensure trekkers have a safe and comfortable stay. The friendly local communities welcome visitors with traditional hospitality, allowing trekkers to experience authentic Himalayan lifestyles.

Food during the trek is freshly prepared at local teahouses. Although the menu becomes simpler at higher elevations, trekkers can enjoy nutritious meals that provide enough energy for long trekking days. Common meals include traditional Nepali dishes, Tibetan-style food, and international options.

Food Options Include:

  • Dal Bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetables)
  • Noodles and pasta dishes
  • Tibetan bread and pancakes
  • Momos (Nepali/Tibetan dumplings)
  • Soups and hot drinks
  • Tea, coffee, and other beverages

Accommodation Facilities:

  • Local teahouse accommodation
  • Twin-sharing rooms
  • Basic beds and blankets
  • Shared dining areas
  • Hot showers available in some villages
  • Authentic mountain village experience

Manaslu Circuit Trek Permits

The Manaslu region is a restricted trekking area in Nepal, which means special permits are required before entering the region. These regulations help protect the natural environment, preserve local culture, and control tourism activities. Ram Himalayan Trek manages all necessary permits and documentation to ensure a smooth trekking experience.

Trekkers need three major permits for the Manaslu Circuit Trek. The Restricted Area Permit is mandatory because the trail passes through a protected border region near Tibet. Additionally, trekkers need conservation area permits for both the Manaslu and Annapurna regions.

Required Permits for Manaslu Circuit Trek:

  • Special Restricted Area Permit (SRAP): Required for the Manaslu restricted region
  • Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP): Required for conservation area entry
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): Required after crossing Larkya La Pass toward Dharapani

Ram Himalayan Trek assists trekkers with the complete permit process, ensuring all documents are prepared before departure. Having proper permits allows trekkers to enjoy the journey legally and safely without unnecessary complications.

Along the way, we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant and continue our journey through the picturesque countryside. The route follows the Budhi Gandaki River valley, offering beautiful views of green landscapes and distant mountains. Upon reaching Maccha Khola, we check into a local teahouse where we spend the night. Your trekking team from Ram Himalayan Trek will ensure that you are comfortable and prepared for the first walking day of this incredible Himalayan adventure.
Today marks the beginning of our trekking adventure through the remote and beautiful Manaslu region. After breakfast, we follow the trail alongside the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through peaceful villages, green forests, and dramatic river valleys. The trail includes several uphill and downhill sections, stone pathways, and exciting crossings over suspension bridges decorated with prayer flags. As we walk deeper into the restricted Manaslu region, we begin experiencing the unique culture and lifestyle of mountain communities. The journey offers beautiful views of waterfalls, rocky cliffs, and traditional settlements. After approximately six to seven hours of trekking, we arrive at Jagat, a charming village that serves as an important checkpoint for the Manaslu Conservation Area. Overnight accommodation will be arranged at a local teahouse.
Leaving Jagat behind, we continue our journey deeper into the Manaslu region. The trail today takes us through a variety of landscapes, including cultivated terraces, dense forests, and narrow sections of the Budhi Gandaki Valley. We cross the river several times using suspension bridges while enjoying the peaceful surroundings and spectacular mountain scenery. Along the way, we pass through traditional villages where locals follow ancient Tibetan-influenced lifestyles. The gradual increase in altitude allows our bodies to adapt slowly while we enjoy the natural beauty of the region. After several hours of walking, we reach Deng, a small mountain settlement surrounded by forests and hills. Our team from Ram Himalayan Trek will arrange a comfortable teahouse stay where you can rest and prepare for the upcoming trekking days.
Today’s trek takes us further into the higher Himalayan landscape as we continue following the Budhi Gandaki River toward Namrung. The trail passes through beautiful forests filled with pine, fir, and rhododendron trees, along with several small villages that reflect the unique mountain culture of the Manaslu region. As we gain elevation, the scenery becomes more dramatic, with towering cliffs, waterfalls, and glimpses of snow-covered peaks appearing along the route. We cross several bridges and walk through peaceful landscapes where the sounds of nature accompany our journey. After around six to seven hours of trekking, we arrive at Namrung, a beautiful village offering impressive views of the surrounding mountains. We spend the night at a local teahouse and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this Himalayan settlement.
After breakfast at Namrung, we continue our journey toward the higher Himalayan settlements of the Manaslu region. Today’s trail takes us through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests, traditional villages, and open landscapes with increasingly impressive views of the surrounding mountains. After several hours of trekking, we reach the beautiful village of Lho, where we stop for lunch and enjoy magnificent views of Mount Manaslu and the surrounding peaks. Lho is famous for its ancient monastery, traditional stone houses, and spectacular mountain scenery. After lunch, we continue our trek toward Shyala Village, which is located at a higher elevation and offers one of the best panoramic viewpoints in the region. Staying overnight at Shyala is highly recommended because it provides excellent acclimatization and breathtaking sunrise and sunset views of Manaslu, Himalchuli, and other Himalayan peaks. Our team from Ram Himalayan Trek will arrange your comfortable teahouse accommodation and ensure proper rest for the next day’s adventure.
After enjoying breakfast at Shyala Village, your trekking guide from Ram Himalayan Trek will provide a short morning briefing about the day’s route, safety instructions, and preparation before starting the hike. We pack our lunch and begin our journey to Sama Gaun through beautiful alpine landscapes. Before reaching Sama Gaun, we take a side trip to the peaceful and culturally important Pungyen Gompa, located beneath the impressive Manaslu mountain range. The monastery offers breathtaking views and a wonderful opportunity to experience the spiritual traditions of the local Tibetan-influenced communities. After exploring the area and enjoying our packed lunch, we continue toward Sama Gaun, one of the most beautiful villages on the Manaslu Circuit. This traditional mountain settlement is surrounded by dramatic peaks, including Mount Manaslu, and provides an excellent opportunity to experience local culture. We spend the night at a comfortable teahouse in Sama Gaun.
Today is an important acclimatization day designed to help our bodies adjust to the increasing altitude before continuing toward higher elevations. Rather than remaining inactive, we explore the beautiful surroundings of Sama Gaun through optional day hikes. Depending on weather conditions, fitness level, and group interests, we can hike toward Manaslu Base Camp or revisit the peaceful Pungyen Gompa area. The Manaslu Base Camp hike offers incredible views of glaciers, high mountain landscapes, and the majestic Manaslu peak, while Pungyen Gompa provides a cultural experience with stunning Himalayan scenery. This gradual altitude adjustment plays an important role in maintaining safety and comfort during the trek. After exploring the area, we return to Sama Gaun for overnight accommodation. The team of Ram Himalayan Trek will assist with proper rest, hydration, and preparation for the challenging days ahead.
After breakfast, we leave the beautiful village of Sama Gaun and continue our trek toward Samdo, one of the highest permanent settlements in the Manaslu region. Today’s trail is shorter, allowing us to walk slowly and continue acclimatizing while enjoying the spectacular Himalayan environment. The route follows the Budhi Gandaki River through open valleys, rocky landscapes, and high-altitude terrain with magnificent views of snow-covered mountains. As we approach Samdo, we notice the strong Tibetan cultural influence reflected in the architecture, lifestyle, and traditions of the local people. Samdo is located close to the Tibetan border and has historically been an important trading area between Nepal and Tibet. After reaching the village, we have time to explore the surroundings, relax, and enjoy the peaceful mountain atmosphere. Overnight accommodation will be arranged at a local teahouse by Ram Himalayan Trek.
Today we spend another important acclimatization day in Samdo before attempting the challenging Larkya Pass crossing. We take an optional day hike toward the Tibetan border, reaching an elevation of around 5,000 meters depending on weather and trail conditions. This gradual climb and return helps our bodies adapt to the high altitude while providing incredible views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks, valleys, and ancient trade routes. The hike offers a unique experience as we explore a remote area that has been influenced by centuries of Tibetan culture and traditions. Our experienced guide from Ram Himalayan Trek will monitor everyone’s health condition and walking pace throughout the day to ensure safety. After returning to Samdo, we relax at the teahouse, prepare our trekking equipment, and get ready for the journey toward Dharmasala and the famous Larkya Pass.
Today we continue our gradual ascent toward Dharmasala, also known as Larkya Phedi, the final overnight stop before crossing the challenging Larkya Pass. The trail becomes more rugged as we enter a remote and dramatic high-altitude landscape. We follow the trail beside the Budhi Gandaki River and pass through barren mountain terrain surrounded by impressive Himalayan peaks. Although the walking distance is short, the increasing altitude requires a slow and steady pace. Upon reaching Dharmasala, we take time to rest and prepare for the most challenging day of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Our guide from Ram Himalayan Trek will provide a detailed briefing about the Larkya Pass crossing, including early morning departure time, weather conditions, and necessary preparations. Overnight stay will be at a basic mountain teahouse.
Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of the entire Manaslu Circuit Trek as we cross the spectacular Larkya Pass, one of Nepal’s highest trekking passes. We start very early in the morning to take advantage of stable weather conditions. The trail gradually climbs across rocky terrain, glacial landscapes, and high mountain paths before reaching the top of Larkya Pass. From the pass, we enjoy unforgettable panoramic views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, Annapurna II, and the surrounding Himalayan ranges. After celebrating this achievement, we begin a long descent toward Bimthang through beautiful mountain scenery. Although the day is physically demanding, the breathtaking views and sense of accomplishment make it one of the most memorable experiences of the trek. Upon arrival at Bimthang, we rest at a comfortable teahouse arranged by Ram Himalayan Trek.
After successfully crossing Larkya Pass, today we begin our descent toward the lower Himalayan region. The trail from Bimthang takes us through beautiful forests filled with pine, rhododendron, and oak trees while following the Dudh Khola River. We pass through charming villages including Gho and Tilije, where we can observe traditional mountain lifestyles and interact with local communities. As we lose elevation, the landscape changes from high alpine terrain to greener forests and cultivated areas. The walk is long but enjoyable, offering a chance to reflect on the incredible journey through the remote Manaslu region. After approximately seven to eight hours of trekking, we reach Dharapani, a popular village connected with the Annapurna region trekking routes. We celebrate the completion of our trekking adventure with the support of Ram Himalayan Trek and enjoy our final night in the mountains.

After breakfast, we begin our scenic drive from Dharapani to Besisahar (3 hours) and back to Kathmandu. The journey takes us through beautiful mountain roads, rivers, hills, and rural villages as we gradually return to the busy city environment. Although the drive is long, it provides one last opportunity to enjoy Nepal’s diverse landscapes and observe local life along the highway. We stop for lunch and refreshments along the way before continuing toward Kathmandu. Upon arrival in the capital city, the team of Ram Himalayan Trek will transfer you to your hotel where you can relax and enjoy a well-deserved rest. In the evening, we organize a farewell dinner where you can celebrate the successful completion of the Manaslu Circuit Trek and share unforgettable memories with your trekking team.

Today marks the conclusion of your incredible Manaslu Circuit Trek adventure with Ram Himalayan Trek. According to your flight schedule, our representative will transfer you from your hotel to Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure. As you leave Nepal, you will carry unforgettable memories of breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, challenging mountain trails, traditional villages, and the warm hospitality of the local communities. Frequently Asked Questions

The 15 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek is considered a moderately challenging to strenuous trekking adventure that is suitable for trekkers with good physical fitness and a positive attitude. The itinerary includes daily walks of 4–9 hours across rugged mountain trails, steep ascents, descents, suspension bridges, and remote villages. The most demanding section is crossing Larkya Pass (5,106m), where high altitude and changing weather require careful preparation. Previous trekking experience is helpful but not mandatory. Ram Himalayan Trek recommends preparing with regular hiking, cardio exercises, and strength training several weeks before your journey to improve endurance and make the trek more enjoyable.

Previous trekking experience is beneficial, but it is not a strict requirement for joining the 15 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek. Many first-time trekkers successfully complete the journey after proper physical preparation and by maintaining a steady walking pace. The itinerary includes two acclimatization days at Sama Gaun and Samdo, helping your body adjust to higher elevations before crossing Larkya Pass. Trekkers should be comfortable walking for several consecutive days on mountain trails while carrying a light daypack. Ram Himalayan Trek provides experienced guides who monitor your pace, safety, and overall well-being throughout the trek.

Acclimatization days are one of the most important parts of the 15 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek because they significantly reduce the risk of altitude sickness. The itinerary includes rest days at Sama Gaun and Samdo, allowing trekkers to hike to higher elevations during the day before returning to sleep at lower altitudes. This gradual approach helps the body adapt to decreasing oxygen levels, improving safety and increasing the chances of successfully crossing Larkya Pass. Ram Himalayan Trek follows a carefully designed itinerary that prioritizes acclimatization, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable trekking experience for every participant.

Yes, altitude sickness is one of the primary concerns during the Manaslu Circuit Trek because the highest point reaches Larkya Pass at 5,106 meters. Symptoms such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and shortness of breath can occur if trekkers ascend too quickly. The itinerary is specifically designed with gradual elevation gain and dedicated acclimatization days to minimize these risks. Guides closely monitor every participant for signs of altitude-related illness and make informed decisions if additional rest or descent becomes necessary. Ram Himalayan Trek always prioritizes client safety over reaching the destination, ensuring responsible trekking practices throughout the journey.

Ram Himalayan Trek is committed to providing safe, authentic, and memorable trekking experiences throughout Nepal's Himalayas. The company offers experienced government-licensed trekking guides, carefully planned itineraries, quality accommodation arrangements, reliable transportation, and complete permit management for the restricted Manaslu region. Safety is always the highest priority, with well-designed acclimatization schedules and professional support throughout the journey. The team also emphasizes responsible tourism by respecting local culture, supporting mountain communities, and promoting environmentally friendly trekking practices. Whether you are trekking in Nepal for the first time or returning for another Himalayan adventure, Ram Himalayan Trek strives to deliver exceptional service from arrival in Kathmandu until your final departure.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek requires several permits because it passes through a protected and restricted region of Nepal. Trekkers need the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP), the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), as the trek exits through the Annapurna region. According to Nepal government regulations, independent trekking is not allowed in the restricted area, meaning trekkers must travel with a licensed guide and through a registered trekking company. Ram Himalayan Trek arranges all required permits and handles the necessary paperwork before the trek begins, making the process simple and hassle-free.

Accommodation during the 15 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek mainly consists of local teahouses operated by mountain families. Rooms are generally simple, clean, and comfortable, usually featuring twin beds with blankets. Shared bathrooms are common, while hot showers, charging facilities, and Wi-Fi may be available at lower elevations for an additional fee. As the trek reaches higher altitudes, facilities become more basic due to the remote location. Staying in teahouses also offers an excellent opportunity to experience authentic Himalayan hospitality and local culture. Ram Himalayan Trek carefully selects reliable teahouses to ensure trekkers enjoy comfortable overnight stays whenever possible.

The teahouses along the Manaslu Circuit serve a variety of freshly prepared meals designed to provide sufficient energy for trekking. Common menu options include Dal Bhat (rice, lentils, vegetables, and curry), noodles, fried rice, soups, potatoes, Tibetan bread, pancakes, eggs, pasta, and seasonal vegetables. Breakfast generally includes tea or coffee along with bread, porridge, eggs, or pancakes. Although food choices become more limited at higher elevations, the meals remain nutritious and filling. Ram Himalayan Trek recommends eating balanced meals, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding alcohol at high altitude to support proper acclimatization.

The best seasons for the 15 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these months, trekkers enjoy stable weather, comfortable temperatures, clear mountain views, and excellent trail conditions. Spring offers blooming rhododendron forests and colorful landscapes, while autumn provides crisp air and spectacular Himalayan panoramas after the monsoon season. Winter trekking is possible but involves heavy snowfall near Larkya Pass, while the summer monsoon brings frequent rain, muddy trails, and limited visibility. Ram Himalayan Trek highly recommends trekking during the main seasons for the best overall experience.

Packing wisely is essential for a successful Manaslu Circuit Trek because weather conditions vary greatly between lower valleys and high mountain passes. Essential items include layered clothing, a waterproof jacket, insulated down jacket, trekking boots, warm gloves, thermal base layers, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, trekking poles, sleeping bag, reusable water bottles, headlamp, and a personal first aid kit. Lightweight packing helps reduce fatigue while maintaining comfort. Ram Himalayan Trek provides a detailed packing checklist before departure and offers guidance on selecting the right gear based on the trekking season and expected weather conditions.
